Garbiñe Ortega

Garbiñe Ortega is a film curator from Spain. Her curatorial work has been programmed internationally at Film Society of Lincoln Center (New York), Tate Modern (London), Film Museum de Viena, National Gallery of Art (Washington) and Pacific Film Archive (California), among others. She is the cofounder of ZINELEKU a film camp that takes places in the Basque Country.

Currently, she teaches at Elias Querejeta Zine Eskola (San Sebastian) and ESCAC (Barcelona). She is the artistic director of Punto de Vista International Film Festival.

Doctor in Music from the Universitat Politècnica de València, his main teachers have been Franco Donatoni, Riccardo Sinigaglia, Alessandro Melchiorre and Alvise Vidolin.

Collaborating member of AGON acustic informatica musica from 1996 until 2008, in 1993 he founded the project Tangatamanu with Alberto Morelli, dedicated to composition and music projects for audiovisual installations and interactive environments, especially working with Studio Azzurro and Peter Greenaway.

Active in the performance of electroacoustic works in concerts, theatre and multimedia installations, he has produced numerous video music works and interactive installations with Julia Chiner. He is a Professor of Electroacoustic Composition and Composition with Audiovisual Media at Musikene, Higher School of Music of the Basque Country (Spain). He is an Associate Professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València’s Faculty of Fine Arts, collaborating with the Sculpture Department, the University Master’s Degree in Music and the Master in Visual Art and Multimedia. He is an external professor on the AFAM degree course Musica per l’immagine at the Civica Scuola di Musica “C. Abbado” in Milan (Italy). He was formerly a professor of Sound Design at the Università Politecnica di Milano’s Faculty of Design (Italy) and external Professor of Composizione per ambienti multimediali at the “G. Verdi” Conservatoire in Como (Italy).

He collaborates as a composer and sound designer at international events with other authors including Peter Greenaway, Robert Wilson, Luca Francesconi, Víctor Rasgado, Moni Ovadia, Roberto Andò, Peter Bottazzi and Michele Tadini.

Since 2011 he has been the curator, with Julia Chiner, from Synchresis, of an international selection of video music works in the framework of the “Punto de encuentro” International Festival of Sound Art and Electroacoustic Music organised by AMEE.
