Gorka Urbizu

Gorka Urbizu Ruiz (born 1977 in Lekunberri, Navarra) is a musician and producer renowned for his extensive work as a lyricist and composer at the helm of BERRI TXARRAK, a band he formed at the age of 17 and with which he has toured the world, giving more than a thousand concerts. He has worked with several of the most prestigious rock producers such as Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey), Ross Robinson (The Cure, At The Drive-In), and Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, Rise Against, Lemonheads). After 25 years of an intense career, in 2019 he decided to take a break following a historic farewell tour, which was brought to the screen by Marina Lameiro in the acclaimed documentary DARDARA (available on Filmin). After a few years out of the media spotlight, in 2024 he surprised both critics and the public with the release of ‘HASIERA BAT’, his solo debut. An album that was released unexpectedly on a Monday in January, it emerged as a reaction to the speed and over-information with which we live. The commitment to simplicity, and the raw and beautiful nature of the songs have made this album a sonic refuge for many people. "It's not just an album, it's a gem," noted El País music critic Fernando Navarro. Gorka Urbizu, who releases all his music on his own label Only In Dreams, is also behind other projects such as KATAMALO (where he mixes poetry with acoustic music) and PEIREMANS+ (closer to power pop), thus demonstrating a passion for music and an eclectic taste always at the service of the song.
