Diego Vasallo. "Malo ni bueno"
Concert
In 1984, Diego Vasallo co-founded the band Duncan Dhu with Mikel Erentxun and Juan Ramón Viles. He recorded nine albums with the band and toured for over twenty years. In 1997, he began his solo career under his own name, releasing ten albums to date. In this solo phase of his career, his music is characterized by a search for sonic introspection and a greater emphasis on lyrics, bringing the sounds of folk, blues, and rock and roll into a more literary personal universe. "Neither Bad Nor Good" is Diego Vasallo's tenth album; a project produced by himself and Fer García, recorded at Greenfarm and Garate Studios with Kaki Arcarazo, and mastered at Doctor Mastering by Estanis Elorza. The EP consists of five lengthy songs, with lyrics that progress unstoppably, carrying along all the burdens of ignorance, uncertainty, guilt, and longing that the years leave behind, like those useless objects we keep in an old kitchen drawer. In Vasallo's own words, these are lost songs; suitable for releasing like kites on a stormy night. "Nebulous textures and electric cadences support sonic landscapes that aim towards the margins, trying to break away from the narrow channels of rock waters, to sometimes bare teeth, and other times be rocked by dark tides of broken, soaked, ambiguous lyricism. Like looking back through dirty glasses," he remarks.
