Smith is a filmmaker, television producer and writer who has produced a multitude of documentaries and series.
Smith wrote, produced and directed "Forrest Bess: Key to the Riddle". Narrated by actor Willem Dafoe, the film won a mention at the 1998 San Francisco International Film Festival.
Smith has also produced CBS News on several programs including "The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather" (1995), "Sunday Morning" (1994), and "Street Stories with Ed Bradley" (1991-93). He has also produced stories for Michael Moore's "TV Nation" (Fox, 1995) and for NHK Evening News (Japan).
