John Lydon's life exploded in 1977 with the self-destructive take-off of the Sex Pistols. But he didn't see finishing off his Johnny Rotten character as a cul-de-sac, but as the starting point for a new challenge. The next year he founded a new band, PiL, which he used to experiment with underground sounds for three long decades of artistic and personal ups and downs. In The Public Image Is Rotten Lydon opens up his memories to weigh up pros and cons, comment, philosophise, insult and incisively get his teeth into everything that happened around him over all those years.
