Back

It's 1970 and Ginger Baker is going nowhere. With Cream and Blind Faith he's come to the end of the road in his musical development within rock. Heroin is steering him into a one-way street. He sees clearly that the only way out is to get away and, once he's clean, find a new place to seek the challenge of a new kind of music to make him start again from zero. After getting one of the first Range Rovers on the market he decided to cross Europe and then the Sahara to Nigeria, where he wanted to set up a recording studio and experience playing with the country's musicians, something completely different from everything he knew in the music world. Among them was a young, as-yet unknown musician called Fela Kuti.
